Sears has their 10" Craftsman bandsaw for $140 + tax which takes it to $150.
Anyone have an opinion if that is a good price?

I have a Delta 9" but need a bit more, than 3 1/2" depth capacity that the
Sears product (made in China) offers.

The price is good to Saturday---any thoughts?

I think you will soon find that this 10" saw will be not quite big enough
also. Go for a standard sized BS.

Yeah, what he said. I found a used 14 with a riser and it's STILL not
quite big enough sometimes but it's big enough most of the time. A 10
would just take you a little longer to get frustrated.

Yeah... I have a 10", which I thought was a good deal at the time for
$200. Now I wish I would have spent the extra $100 to get a decent 14"
- the Grizzly G0580 is on sale for $310, I've actually heard decent
things about the HF 14" for $289, and HD has a 14" Ridgid for $349 with
a "lifetime warranty." Even though all of these are fairly low-line
saws, as I understand them, they're better than any of the "toy"
bandsaws (9-10") out there. If I were you, I'd try to get by with my
9" for a little while longer, save up some money, and get a "real"
bandsaw. I wish I would have. In the meantime, if you don't already
have it, get "The Bandsaw Book" by Duginske - that should help convince
you that 14" is really a minimum size.
OTOH, if you still want the 10", I'll sell you a lightly-used Ryobi
WITH a nice collection of timberwolf blades for $150...

can't agree more with the others...

size DOES matter... and if you're moving up, why only 1"?

Double the price and get a 14" BS... like houses, rv's, boats, etc., it's
cheaper to buy the bigger one first than it is to buy a lot of "little bigger"
ones over time... YMWV

Can't say this strongly enough. Don't waste your money on that
marginal jump regardless of brand. You can sell that Delta on eBay
and combine the cash and sale and you're probably at $250. While I
have a 14" Jet w/riser, many, many people are very happy with a
Grizzly 14". Many are happy with a Craftsman too.

OTH, you can look for a used 14' BS and maybe save some money. Try
eBay or Craigslist or some of the WW sites.

What about the 12" Craftsman? They actually have 2 models at the same
price, about $285.

They claim a 7" resaw which would be more than a 14" without a riser,
but how realistic is that with a 3/4 hp 7 amp motor?

If one doesn't really care that much about the extra 2" throat depth
is there any reason not to consider?
