Dear Mr. Stoutman:

I contribute to this forum and always offer a helping hand when I can.
I never post politics or religion. If a woodworking school is not
woodworking related I do not know what is. This is in no way spam.
Are you some self appointed web ploice? Perhaps you should keep to
woodworking as well.

If Mike was putting these up once a day, I'd agree it was spam, but a
contributer to the group that lists something that woodworkers would be
interested in is no different than someone listing a TS for sale. Are
FS posts spam?

So what?

Nothing wrong wiith the occasional promotion from the folks that
contribute to the well being of the wreck.

Kinda like sticking your business card up next to the dartboard at your
local pub, in my mind.

Agreed. He might come off a little less commercial if he simply posted his
web page at the bottom of a sincere post.

His "Name" is a commercial in itself : "mike from American Sycamore". I
mean come on, we get it.

At least he's up front with the name. The name tells you that he works
for them. Better than some others that act as an unaffiliated party.
Just my opinion.

Mike is definitely one of the nicest guys around, SM. He spent a lot of
his time helping me out some time ago. He went way beyond the "call of
duty", so be NICE!

Since I started hanging out in the wreck I've seen brilliance leave,
brilliance go off the political deep end, Troll and Kook attacks that
people should have known better than to respond to, newcomers attacked
for little cause when a gentle, welcoming, remonstration would have
been more appropriate, and newcomers barge in and decide they could
"clean the place up" by attacking the core community that make this
news group interesting, fun and worth following.

I don't imagine it's gonna change soon...

All it takes is lurking for a while to learn who is worth listening to,
and who isn't.

All it takes is lurking for a while to learn what topics have been
discussed to death, and are worth searching groups.google.com for to
learn if there's anything new to say.

All it takes is lurking for a while to learn that this is a real
community, with real people populating it, who really give a damn about
woodworking and their/our community.

Some people need to lurk more.

I assume you are referring to me.

Google me in this group and you will find that I am no newbie... Not an old

I just don't think pure advertisement posts have there place in this forum.
Just my opinion and I doubt I'm alone.

Ok, I'm alone on this one, but I don't think a link at the bottom of a post
is not the same as a blatant commercial.

Bring on the commercials and advertisements!! Sell Sell Sell!!

Nononono! Pardon, I absolutely was NOT referring to you, stoutman!

My post was a general ramble combining several ongoing threads that
just happened to end up here.

My apologies for not making it clear.

BTW, if you google *me* in this group you'll find this isn't the first

Seriously, while there is a general requirement that people not come
here and advertise their sites, we ALL (regulars) expect and tolerate
LV, Sycamore, Fly by Night (in the past), and Steve Knight. You'd stir
up a hornet's nest if you lobbied to "hush" them up. If I missed any
other posters with commercial sites that other regulars consider
appropriate, blame it on my poor memory.

Heh. I remember the first time. As a total newbie, I shat on Keeter...

Oh, do I remember that. First time I'd *ever* been called "Sonny me
lad"... IIRC it was Mr. Self, and he actually cared enough to *email*
me rather than call me out in public.

It hurt, but it sure as hell impressed on me that this was a newsgroup
with traditions, and that it would behoove me greatly to spend a bit of
time lurking and learning the lore.

We learn from them what's gone before...

Right. If you're a regular, they already know you make planes or sell
insurance or whatever, and they know and trust you. It's the bozos who
wander in and drive-by spam that don't get or deserve any respect.

You're lucky. I got roundly chastised publicly by more than Keeter, and
he was at the front of the parade. :)

So what? Mike has been very helpful to the group over the few years I've
been here. I even had the pleasure of meeting him at the Springfield show.
Very nice folks. Very nice. My wife wants me to take a class just so she
can go and hang out while I'm there and join in the hospitality.

Many of us are interested in what is going on at the school and hope to
attend one day. I'm glad he posted and I did check out the latest
information on his web page.

Next time there is a show and American Sycamore participates, go meet Mike
and Dana. You'll have a different attitude.

SO?

It was posted what, once to one group?

Mike contributes here on a regular basis, as does Ed Bennett, Steve
Knight, Rob Lee, etc...

An occasional ON TOPIC product or service announcement is hardly spam.

I'd rather have folks like them tell us about their stuff & services
than read about who lied about who in what war.

Jeez...
