Made a couple of tables for a friend - one 6' x 6' and the small one at
3' x 6'. Made from alder at his request. He bought the alder legs from
Rockler. Here's some pics of tables made from glued up panels.

The panels float in the frame. Th large table has two pabels with a
frame piece separating them down the middle.

About 7 years old and no dropped turkeys making them fall apart ;-)

Great looking tables. The finish really makes a real difference (duh)! ; )

Nice work! Thank you for sharing, and inspiring!

....and Bill, you don't need a jointer to prep the planks for the glue
up. I used my $89 Chiwanese TS with a jointing jig, then fined tuned
with a block plane. I used a router with a slot cutter to cut the
biscuit slots for alignment. Here's a picture of my "jointer".

You don't need all the big power tools, just some alternative methods...

Wow Doug, I was shocked at the results, considering the first picture.
GREAT job!

Thanks Leon. The finisher can make a silk purse out of a sows ear :-)

Well done, and how actually do the panels float....
I take it they are not glued to the frame, and sit in a route?
nice work.

Well, they are in a route. I made floating tenons to go in the end
frames and glued the edges of the panels to the frame, but but just glue
in the center of the end of the panel on the small table and on the
center frame end of the panels on the large table. The aprons are also
screwed to the frame pieces with elongated holes in the end apron pieces.

I've been really surprised that the side frames don't seem to have moved
much with respect to the end frame pieces, if at all. Might have
something to do with the Arizona desert climate.

Once again you have shown that you don't need a Rolls Royce
to get a quart of milk at the local 7-11.

Nice work.

Still, the finisher had to have a good foundation to start with.
