Segmented turning, An Introduction, part 2
OK, now we have our segments all done, so we need to glue them together.
This photo shows a small piece of scrap wood glued in place with CA glue which dries almost instantly. I line up the upper ring where it goes, the glue some scrap pieces in place to keep it from sliding around when it's being glued together. Four or five of them around the ring does the trick. Makes the glue up a lot easier and more accurate! Next shots show the piece glued up, with a hunk of scrap wood on the bottom which will be held by the chuck. It will be turned off when I'm done. Last shot shows the bottom 3/4 of the bowl on the lathe. There is a 'feature ring' that will also be glued on, but before I can do that I need to true up the bottom 3/4 so I can get an accurate placement. Stay tuned... ....Kevin -- Kevin Miller - http://www.alaska.net/~atftb Juneau, Alaska In a recent survey, 7 out of 10 hard drives preferred Linux Registered Linux User No: 307357, http://counter.li.org |
