This is from Chris Marshall's article which appeared in the May/June
2008 issue of Woodworker's Journal. It's not often I see something
in a magazine that I want to make without some modification but I
thought this was a nice design.

Good job. That is almost too nice for the tools.

If you keep buying tools, are you going tomake more of these tool chests?

Good job. That is almost too nice for the tools.

I think the challenge now is to fill it with "nicer" tools. =0)

Only problem is that filling it with new tools often means a refit since
they often change size and shape.

You have carried on a tradition that is rarely seen these days. A proudly
executed tool chest, specifically designed for the tools of his trade, was
at one point the measure and hallmark of an accomplished craftsman.

You are there ... very well done!

It's hard to say ... it was done over the course of a few weekends,
where I was distracted with getting my router table rebuilt as well.
Between that and having to wait to get the shop up to temperature this
time of year, it was sporadic, making it harder to estimate time.

I purchsed the chestmate jig specifically to do this project and
except for a practice run with some scrap pine this was my initial
experince with it. It worked great but at first I got the fit too
tight. Once I realized though, it was easy to run them again at a
slightly different setting. That was probably the most time consuming
part for me and one that would no doubt go faster on the next project.
I don't think the chestmate jig will replace the many fixtures that
are available for dovetaling but for a project like this it's a
perfect "affordable" option. ( I got lucky purchasing mine on Amazon
on sale for $66)

I stll have to divide up the top compartment and possible the drawers
as well. I need to glue the felt in the drawers. I may go over the
shellac with a coat or to of wipe on poly ....

But the way I di things I'll be on to another project and this one
will never actually be DONE ! =0 )
