Identify This pls
 

I was given this. I want to restore it. At first I thought it was an old
make-up dresser, but i was told it is an old wash desk. Does anyone know
for sure? And Does the mirror go on the lower side or high one? What age
would this be and what is the color one of these should be? I have started
to remove layers of paint. I believe the wood under it all is Oak. I have
posted the 2 pics of it. Sory that it is in so bad a shape, I have started
to glue it back together. Thnx

It looks just like what my grandmother had for washing up in her indoor
"bathroom" before they had indoor plumbing.

The one I'm talking about held a basin of water, and the mirror went over it
for shaving, combing hair, etc. Very close in design, except hers had a tin
top where the basin went, and a stone top on the drawer side.

Commode or dry sink. Thunder mug went behind the door, mirror above the
wash basin in the gap up top.

Thnx for resizing this. Now i know what it is and where to put the part.

It will be a good hobby for now. i have other things to repair. What
would be a color that they might have used on that?

I see these sometimes at auctions and they are never painted, but are
usually are fairly dark stain.

Rick, there was only one picture, of the mirror. Looks like the mirror to
a dresser. Pretty substantial for a dressing table, they were usually
smaller and more delicate. If it is a mirror for a dresser and it dates
back to 1920 or before, chances are about 90% that it was originally
stained and varnished. Painted was usually a special order Oak and maple
were the most common woods for furniture, since they was plentiful and
hardy. Some sycamore and walnut was available, but usually more expensive.
Elm was seldom used, too hard to work with and it warpped easily. About
its position, I would have to see the rest of the piece, and maybe I could
tell
