BOSCH routers
 

I have to constantly use scotch brite pads on my 2 bosch router bodies
to get rid of the oxidation, so that they will move in their bases.

Bosch even replaced one router when it would no longer move.

Anyone have a solution to the oxidation problem with these magnesium
cases. Seems like they should have coated them.

I have tried wd40, and wax.. I know (wax was a bad idea) but I needed to
spend more time working and less cleaning.

This is not a humid env, it is a material problem from what the Bosch
service guy told me.

Anyone come up with a way of preventing the oxidation?

Magnesium was not a wise choice of materials by Bosch; that stuff
oxidizes horribly even in the best of environments. I would suggest a
periodic coating of a petroleum jelly based product such as "Slipit":

I use wax, Top Saver, Top Cote, whatever's handy. They all work for
me, and all seem to slow the process to a crawl.

BTW, one of mine is not corroded, but one that was left inside an MDF
box got severely corroded. I think something the MDF was outgassing
greatly accelerated the process. Both routers are similar vintage, so
the materials are the same.

I was in the Navy for 26 years, most of it shipboard.

I saw all manner of lubes and sealers used but nothing worked better than
Preparation H.

You have to use the water soluble salve, not the creme.

Try it.

I use it on my saw tops and other tools.
