It has a unique smell. It's the basis of Watco Danish Oil, so if you've ever smelled that you'll recognize it. Most tung oil finishes I've used pretty much smell like any other wiping varnish - ie, mostly a paint thinner/solvent sort of smell... ....Kevin |

Which "Tung Oil" finishes are you aware of that don't contain Tung oil?? I read the same thing in Flexner's book also. FWIW see the article at: http://forums.woodworking.com/articl...=6&article=903 and the message by Howard Acheson at: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=3257 -- Jack Novak Buffalo, NY - USA |

I'll never forget the smell of a mixture of **** and diesel fuel burning... Hopefully, few in this group have had that delightful experience.. I've never used "pure" tung oil, if you can still get it, but the tung oil/poly and related mixtures seem to work well for a rub-on finish on flatwork... Is the walnut project flat work? mac Please remove splinters before emailing |
