Default Finished two projects today

Last time I posted a military shadowbox,I got some grief from an A$$ who
ranted about how the military today was so wrapped up in glitter and
bangles... screw him. This is the recognize the contribution to our security
and our way of life that is provided by a Sailor who volunteered 28 years of
his life for us.
He is a good friend of mine and I made this box for his retirement.

The second attachment is a room screen that I made for my Daughter.

I live in an apartment and my shop is my kitchen table... Actually, one of
the military bases in the DC area has a superb shop (Bolling AFB) and I do
most of my work there (I'm a retired Sailor).

Shadowbox is Cherry with a wipe on Arm-R-Seal. Blue felt for the
background. Miter corners, M/T on the center shelf. Got a little touchup to
do, clean glass and take out some lint...
Screen is Walnut with maple ply panels, same finish.

Jack

Nice work, Jack! And many thanks for the military service from a grateful
US citizen.

Excellent work on both projects.

You friend, who is retiring, will have an excellent showcase for his
military accomplishments.

Your daughter will have a present from dad.

Last time I said this, I got slapped, but "Nice Box!" G

A nice tribute to your friend's service.

The screen is pretty, too.

Both look real nice! What is the thickness of the maple ply?

Horse****! Get your facts straight.

It had _nothing_ to do with your "military shadowbox", it had to do with the
concept of "challenge coins", which have nothing to do with medals awarded
in service of your country!!

Here is the post in question and I stand by every single word (and you damn
well better believe that the blood I left in SE Asia gives me the right to
an opinion on the issue), so as far as your recollection of the above,
"screw you" too!

Military commands and senior officers have taken challenge coins to a new
level,

Well done ... (the following has nothing to do with your woodworking

skills)

But, as a former officer myself some 40 years ago,
I had to chuckle at the underlying concept.

The military brass has always been like coons in their
love of shiny objects (must be from looking at all that camouflage),
but it appears it won't be long before they're awarding each other
"super bowl" rings for that last campaign.

(Anyone see that general at the news conference last week who had
so many medals that half his upper body was obscured like a two bit
South American dictator's? ... he looked absolutely ridiculous to these
old soldier eyes)

Sorry for the piggyback, but the idea of "challenge coins" for military
officers just sounds so damn childish.

Good job ... too bad your memory is not as excellent as your woodworking and
regard for your friend.

You should be commended for both of the latter.

Jack -
I'm VERY interested in the military shadowbox. I have three sons in the
Army, and all have been overseas - one was awarded a Bronze Star for his
actions in combat. The others all have received various medals and awards.
I thought doing a flag case would be kind of strange since they're all
alive, but I've been looking for a something to make for them to display
their awards, and what you've done here is BEAUTIFUL!!

I was wondering if you would be able to share some tips for doing something
similiar to what you've done here. I've made flag cased for my Uncle and my
Dad's flags that came out pretty good, so I have some ability. I'm sort of
in between "novice" and "intermediate" woodworker, so excuse my questions if
they sound stupid -

Did you use a plan for this, or did you design it yourself?

Is there a glass face over the front of the shadow box? How is the felt on
the back of it constructed? Did you use some kind of padding attached to
the back of the box?

Thanks for any help or tips you'd be willing to share. This is beautiful
work!!
