Wood sources
 

I've seen 2 Coloradoans on here (along with myself) in the past few days.
Was wondering where you guys are getting wood for turning or if you have any
"free" sources around. I've only got a jet mini lathe (that will change
when tax refund comes in!) but I've been turning just about anything I can
get my hands on.

Depends on where in colorado your located.

For starters go to tree service companies in your area.

Some cities have tree dumps or recycling centers where material can be
found.

You will need a saw of some kind to size larger pieces.

neighbor's firewood piles work for me..

I turn a lot of small stuff out of firewood, and make sure that the
folks that gave me a log or two get a small bowl, jar, etc. in
return...

I've been doing this for a few months now and the last 2 neighbors
that bought cords of wood brought me any logs that they thought looked
"interesting".. *lol*..

One of my sayings to people who ask me at shows, "Where do you get your
wood?" Have chainsaw and handtruck, will trade! Don't leave home
without them. Construction areas, fire wood companies, arborists, drive
around after storms; you will eventually develop radar for detecting
downed trees, and sonar for hearing chainsaws running from miles away.
Most of the time people will tell you to help your self because they
are just going to burn it.I have more wood than I need, but I just
can't say no.
