this seems way too high but i guess if you are not sure what the going
price is than start high

can always go lower but never higher unless it is a govt contract

It does come with a Nova chuck ($200) and a few lathe tools ($200?). So you are only paying $3100 for the lathe and stand. Not sure if the Nova lathe automatically comes with the stand or not. But even $3100 is a bit more than high. Like most folks selling used stuff in want ads or Craigslist, they think everything they own is gold plated and diamond encrusted.

probably true but also the seller may just not know what the going
price is and better to start high

I got mine years ago, but it was $2,000 with no stand or much of
anything...
Fantastic lathe, though...

Maybe. But if they have enough computer sense to post ads on Craigslist and take pictures with a digital camera or even their phone, and post pictures to a website, they ought to know how to do an online search and look at eBay and other ads on the internet. Kind of like if you know how to turn with a skew chisel, then you ought to know how to use a roughing gouge.
