Default WTB - Nova 3000 lathe

After much deliberation (and the advice of everybody I could ask), I have
decided that the Nova 3000 lathe is the one for me. I like the heavier duty
than the Jet JWL-1442 and the better price than the JWL-1642.

Further, I appreciate the ability to "upgrade" it along the way and finally,
as I forgot that my shop was going to "go away" for an unknown period of
time, and my wife asked me "where in the world are you going to put a huge
lathe?" (regarding the 1442), I decided that the Nova would be a good choice
for me for now. Then, after I sell enough product, I will upgrade to a
larger (aka VL300) lathe. But, for now, the Nova is what I think I need.

So, if you can please help me locate one, i would appreciate it. I can
paypal the money or deliver cash (or equiv).

If you have any leads, please email me at the REAL address below:

(this account will be active until I acquire a
lathe and then it will be deleted)

thanks.

Ofcourse someone will probably correct me which is fine but except for
used I think the
only place you will find a Nova 3000 is kms out of canada. When I was
looking I
could not find them new in the US and most of the US sellers only now
sell the DVR.

As a result I got the DVR and have no regrets except for the slight pain
in my wallet.

The key to life is admitting your mistakes. It makes each successive
mistake less painful.

You might want to go over to http://woodcentral.com and check the for sale
link. Barbara Gil and John Lucas each have or had Nova 3000 for sale. If you
can't find the for sale link go to the woodturning message board and ask.

Woodcraft carries the Nova 3K and all of the 3 stores near me always
have at least one in stock.

Buy a used Nova 3000 and save yourself some money. Use the money you save for
tools. Just my opinion, I bought a used lathe.

The idea of buying a used Nova 3000 is interesting.
I live in Canada and I wonder if there is a price (Canada and US) schedule
or listing for pre-owned Nova 3000.

Wrong. The store here that just opened has them and says they will
still have them in the time to come. They were also in the Jan 2004
catalog. I'm picking up a new catalog today. If they're not still in
there I will appologise.

The Nova 3000 was removed from the woodcraft web page.
For a long time it was listed but noted as unavailable.
I bet any that are available are residual stock that has not been sold yet.

I just got an email reply from two vendors.

KMS says they are out of stock and expecting a shipment in 3 weeks.

Woodcraft says they do not carry the regular Nova 3000 and that a new
model is coming out in a few months with 1 1/2 HP and 3/4 inch shaft.

That sounds strange to me. The 3/4 in. shaft with 1 1/2 HP? It seems that
would be a down grade from the standard 3K.
The 3/4 in shaft will not br strong enough for large turnings that would be
max out the size of a 3K. I think that combination would result in bent
spindles. Does anyone else see a problem with this?

The only logical guess is 3/4 in. motor shaft, as opposed to 5/8 motor
shaft. Nothing to do with lathe spindle, I'm betting.

Personally I think the motor shaft size for the Nova 3000 has never been a
problem for Nova,
being as they only sold the lathes and the dealers supplied the motor
packages.
Anyone, at any time in the past, or present could purchase a 3/4" shaft
motor, as long as they can acquire a matching step pulley.

SORRY!
I saw "SHAFT", and read "SPINDLE". That happens when I'm tired and don't
line up my bi-focals properly.
I'll try to watch better from now on.

snip The Nova 3000 was removed from the woodcraft web page. snip

You are confusing the Corporate Woodcraft with the Woodcraft stores.
Corporate provides catalogs, promotional stuff, etc. The individual
stores are independently owned and operated. They can stock and order
anything they want in addition to what is in the Corporate catalog. I
was at the Latham, NY store yesterday. They expect to continue to
stock the Nova 3K until it is discontinued by the manufacturer. Since
that store has the same owner as the Rochester, NY store, I would
expect that to be true in Rochester also. I suspect it might be true
at most of the Woodcraft stores.
