showing two views of a birch jar done with the bark on it, account of an interesting knot in the bark - I see some cracking starting across the bottom, uffda. The other item is spalted aspen, and I am mostly pleased with it, except that the surface was crumbing out in a few places. I suppose the wood was not well stabilized. Will have to work more on this aspect of working with spalted wood. Jeepers, the tools are certainly sharp. Am pleased with the buffing tools - the harder the wood, the better the results, I think. tom koehler -- I will find a way or make one. |

Cracks are prone to start in the pith, including the pith of a knot. When it is completely dry you can fill the crack or star with epoxy with a dab of black dye in it and call it a feature. -- G.W.
