Metal stand for Nova 3K

The Teknatool Cast Iron legs are presently on a boat heading to the US.
They should be making it through the Woodcraft distribution channel in
6-8 weeks, maybe sooner if you stay on them. I've only seen a photo of
them, but they look very good.

One experienced DVR owner has adapted the Jet Cast Iron legs to his, and
is quite happy with them, but it will take some modification.

I've had my Nova now for about two years and at first I said it would
do as a good beginners lathe then I would replace it with some heavy
metal (Stubby or Oneway or Powermatic) but whenever I use it I don't
really feel the need for anything else. It has grown on me so I've
decided to keep it for a long time (much to my wife's relief). I
presently have it on a big plywood box filled with sand and it works
well but I would like a metal stand for it. Does anyone have any
suggestions or an old steel or cast iron stand for sale? I've seen the
metal stand at WoodCraft and it seems like it would be solid with a
little bit of welding. Teknatool's cast iron legs are gorgeous but
nobody sells them here yet (checked yesterday at WoodCraft) and buying
from Australia has huge shipping rates. Any suggestions, plans, or
photos to give me ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you much,
Guy

Metal stand for Nova 3K

Honestly - I was in the same boat.
I ended up purchasing the Woodcraft Nova stand - with no regrets.
I added a shelf on it w/ 200lbs of sand and it works fine.

The real challange was - It had to be mobile so I did some heavy duty
adaptation of norms assembly table wheel drop gizmo. It works great. I
have to use a 6' prybar as a lever in order to get enough leverage to get
the wheels to kick out. Its a pretty good design if I do say so myself.
Ill post pic if anyone wants to see it.

I never saw anything about the case iron legs in the US. Can someone point
me to some pics of them?

Thanks

-Rob

I have since built for my dvr a copy of the stubby leg/stand ..Pretty simple
process of 2in square steel tubing and 4in U channel for the legs...I saved
enough money to purchase a mig welder and did all the work muyself..I got
reallly lucky and found the legs in a welding shop's trash and bought the
2in tubing from them...The top, tying the legs together, is a simple open
ladderback design and allows the shavings to calmly fall through..I'm very
happy with the stand and it's the best $40 I've spent yet...Had a 4x4 oak
stand previously and it had too much flex...The new one is absolutely rigid
with no additional weights applied...good luck,Rick
