glueing drinking cups

ive noticed that most of the spatulas and other wooden utensils in the
kitchen used to have some sort of finish on them but by now its worn
off. still instead of them being coarse with grain exposed they have a
nice smooth finish and a richer color from all the stews etc theyve
stirred over the years. id like to make a cup like that for
tea/coffee/other drinks. i have couple of questions: should i now put
any finish on to begin with?
are there certain woods that i should use that have a better taste?
would oak have a too open grain that if it were thin it would leak?
also do CA and epoxy dry so that it would be safe to drink from them?
thanx
