Apprentice Chuck System Q&A
I am relative newbie and have been monitoring the group for a couple of
months. I have a Jet JWL-1236 lathe and at the point of wanting to buy a new chuck. I have looked around on various sites and seen the Nova, Oneway, and Vicmarc chucks. They all seem great but pricey for a newbie. Does anyone have any experience with this brand of chuck? For the same cost as one of the other makers body alone it seems like a good deal. http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/cg...n&key=454-0100 Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I have a Talon and the PSI chuck
(http://www.pennstateind.com/store/cmg3c.html). While the Talon is more polished and easier to operate, they both hold wood well enough for my purposes. Artak "massmans" wrote in message oups.com... Can't be objective because the Talon is the only one I've used, but I like it so much that I bought another one a year later.. have one on the Jet mini and one on the Jet 1442, so I have ya bracketed.. lol I really like the chuck and the folks at Oneway... bad news, you can't order over the web... good news, you call a tool free number and a real person answers and takes your order, answers your questions, etc... I'm very happy with the chuck(s) and surprised that i haven't managed to break one, as much as I use and abuse them.. I've added the spigot jaws, which I don't really use that much, and the jumbo jaws, which are great and I wish that I'd of bought them when I got the chuck!
