Why not use either metal or leaher?
I never saw wooden hinges other than in big doors to
outhouses.

I didn't check, but Eagle America (http://eagleamerica.com/ ) used to
carry small wooden hinges, similar to what you can make with a small
router bit.

I Believe that Canadian Woodworking mag had an article on making wooden
hinges within the last few months.
