I've had one for 2 years now and like it. it does not get a lot of use
as i dont have the time. done a few bowls and boxes and several pens.
no problems to report so far. 1 x 8 spindle and #2 morse taper make it
easy to find accessories for. I chose it over the jet and delta
because i felt the speed changes would be easier. my meat hooks dont
like tight spaces! lol..

A friend of mine got one at a show, and two pieces broke on it almost
immediately, part of which I'm pretty sure was the tailstock. In any
case, the broken parts made it unuseable. Not sure if he has tried to
get it replaced or not. I'll ask him.

I've had a Fisch for 8 months now and like it! I got it over the Jet and
Delta because of the easier belt change.

The only reason I would not make the same decision today is that I've seen
the value of electronic speed control and I would spend the extra money for
a variable speed if I were to do it again.

But for what I spent and what it promised, it's been a great lathe!

To those who own this lathe, is the headstock pulley unsupported on the
outboard end? (under the belt cover) The General bench lathe, which I've
been using for over a year, has this headstock style. The headstock
bearings are only 3 1/4" apart which translates to some vibration when
turning work held in a chuck without tailstock support, even with small
lidded boxes which I typically turn.
But if the bearings on the Fisch are even 1/2" further apart, it would
be a good purchase in my opinion, as it seems to have similar
construction, price, and features as the General.
