New Valcro on Sanding Pads
 

What kind of adhesive should be used to adhere new valcro to sanding
pads with worn valcro.

I have tried contact cement with no success. Buying new valcro backing
pads at $3.95 each can get expensive in a hurry. I have the valcro in
sheets, but can't get it to stay fastened to the holder.

I use the adhesive backed velcro you can get in strips from any sewing
center. It makes for quick and easy repair.

hi here in the uk i use a spray adhesive that is sold for carpet fiking, it
works for me.

3M adhesive. It's also good for matting pictures, cutting multiple pieces
when you forgot to buy doublestick tape.

I use hot glue from a glue gun. It works great.

Actually, I've had really good success with the contact cement. It
soaks in pretty quickly so I apply several coats, not just the one that
would normally be used.

I have been using 3M spray adhesive and have had good luck with it. Thought
I might check it out further and sent an email to 3M and got the following
info:

I've used CA glue. In fact I could not get mine to stick with 3M
because I did a bad job of cutting off the old velcro.

The problem I have not solved is how to remove the self adhesive part.
I tried several things like goo off I think it is called and it did not
do anything.

I am obtaining very results with using heat resistant contact glue from
Canadian Tires. When peeling off the old velcro carefully it does not
damage the foam padding. Also when pulling on the velcro the foam padding
does not come off its base. Only the velcro comes off. The foam pad does
not need to be cleaned before applying new contact glue.

===Talk about customer service. 3M support called me unbidden and we
talked over the situation. He advised that 3M Super 77 would be his
recommendation. 77 will hold up to 120 degrees F. Super 80 or 90 makes for
a more "permanent" hold up to 160 degrees F. As to cleaning up the surface
after use, he recommended two Adhesive Removers, one of that name and the
other is Citrus based. Both are water based, with the citrus based leaving
less residue. Hope this helps.
