dimmer switch with pull string switch

I have changed my normal bedroom light switch to a dimmer switch and the
extra pull string switch (which worked independently of the old switch)
doesn't work the same now. I have to turn the pull string switch on before I
can use the dimmer switch. Is there something I have done wrong? I have run
out of ideas please help
Thanx in advance
Andy

It sounds as if your original switch was probably what is known as a
two way switch and your dimmer a one way. Look up how two way switches
are wired on the Internet, I believe you can get a dimmer which
incorporates a two way style switch unit.

I think you've done something wrong. First obvious one is - have you
got a two way dimmer switch, i.e., a push dimmer.
If it is then you have got the wiring the wrong way round somewhere.
Have a look on here for a bit of a guide for starters.
