Royal Mail insanity
 

Our postie dropped off a card stating that they had an item to deliver,
but it was £1.50 short on postage. I could use any one of various
methods of payment, but since I have no plans to visit the Post Office,
and I don't have stamps to the value of £1.50 to hand, I chose Pay
Online.
Which was all very well, until I was informed that this was only
possible for charges of at least £8.01!
My local council, and NHS car parks, can take values as low as £0.25,
so why this discrimination? Maybe it's part of their Horizon project.

I have a Christmas stamp worth £1.70, using that will be cheaper than
driving to town. And I have no idea what it is, and they won't tell me.
My new laptop isn't ready yet.

A4 sized envelopes but did not pay postage as Large Letters. The
delivery staff left postcards and a large number of local residents
had to troop to the sorting office to pay the surcharge. The person
involved was highly apologetic.

I recently paid 10p online to a theatre, as it was the balance
remaining after existing credits had been used up.

So far that is the only occasion that I have had to verify my
payment - I guess they are looking for small trial debits as
feelers for bigger illicit payments.

"won a prize!". It was sent with insufficient postage; after paying the
surcharge I was less than thrilled to be the proud owner of a branded
ballpoint pen.

My worst was many years ago when I saved up a vast number of
Barclaycard points and was able to buy a phone for £10. I felt
pleased with myself until my work had same phones delivered for the
office and I discovered they cost £10 each.

I encountered this when my mobile was stolen and I ordered a
replacement online. As I started the payment process, I could see
this going badly if they wanted to send a code to my mobile (which
they did). Fortunately, I was able to use the blue card machine
instead..

oh. it juts failed silently for me. so i took the card down the village
PO and they sorted it out and it appeared a couple of days later

germany. Why no one knows.

Don't talk to me about Royal mail.
Articles for the Blind post 1st class mail it says on the part of the regs
covering it,however last week we handed the sack of 70 pouches with ram
sticks to the man at the sorting office. They then from Kingston have to be
put on a van to Feltham, where they are sorted into rounds and sent back to
the local delivery offices in Kingston. Normally its easy, they have time
from Friday lunchtime to Saturday morning to do it, after all half the work
is already done as they are all in Kingston, So why this week did they all
only turn up on Tuesday?

I believe some delivery offices are short staffed because of the
Covid. Social distancing may also be a factor.

There's some strange things happening in the RM system at the moment.
Saturday's delivery came at 5pm.
It has tended to be something like normal on Monday and get
progressively later during the week, as they get busier.
A second class packet, a book, posted on Friday arrived at 3pm Monday.
During the first lockdown my sister, in Bucks, complained that the
post was taking ten days when I, in Leics, was getting next day
deliveries.
