Strange cistern fill
Normally when the toilet is flushed it would re-fill in say a half
minute and you could hear the cistern filling, now its like it fills in short bursts almost like a tap is being turned and then off, it does this about 7 times until the valve cuts it off when filled. Any ideas what would cause this, its just recently started doing this. No other water is being used at the same time ie dishwasher or washing machine. |

Sounds like the fill is causing a wave motion in the cistern which in turn oscillates the ball cock up and down hence the short bursts of on/off fill. When this happened to me it turned out the ball cock had twisted out of vertical. Unless you can see a more obvious fault I would try to reduce the flow through the ball cock. Richard |

Richard Agreed on the cause - but why now? Changed water pressure? If you can, turn off the water supply, flush and feel if slowly lifting and lowering the ballcock feels crunchy and if the high-point feels other than firm. Could just need a clean-up of the valve and arm pivot pin and/or new or flipped-over washer. PA |

I will dig in to it tomorrow and check it out. |

Limescale in the valve getting in the way then moving when the pressure builds? Yeah, looks like it and the video doesn’t show any evidence of significant waves in the water level in the cistern as its filling. Or anything else physically moving much. "ss" wrote in message ... Perhaps his ball has a leak as well That wouldn’t produce that weird oscillating fill effect. though usually if you leave these eventually you get an overflow. "Tricky Dicky" wrote in message ... Had a fumble around all the parts but didnt take anything apart. Wiped the part where the water discharges in to the pan as best I could and this appears to have solved the issue. |

Interesting, thanks for the washup, too uncommon imo. |
