More probably because a few years back there was a spate of forged
Scottish £20 notes being passed in England precisely because most people
there didn't know what a real one looked like.

About a week or so ago. One of the first banks was in Margate; they had a

"go around the corner to a bank" hum, nearest bank branch to here is
15 miles away. That's assuming it's still there, after our last bank
branch closed over five years ago.

Another annoyance is that the machines are flattening the tactile dots on
the tenners, which can eventually mean you have no idea what they are
without measuring them or using a phobile mone app, which at the moment don'
tread the 20s.

You're lucky, you are - our local bank closed a year or two back, and
the nearest one is 40 miles away.

A long time ago a NatWest machine gave me £100 in £1 notes.

How generous of it. No cash machine has ever given me anything.
It always deducts it from my bank account

I was interested to find a local machine that had lower denomination

Inside the (third tier) university nearby. Doesn't seem to the the case

Even longer ago, a NatWest machine regularly gave me ten £1 notes in a

That must have been a long time back. I remember an American friend
whose son wanted some English coins and a pound note for his school
'show and tell' asking if I could help. At the time the pound notes
were already uncommon in change etc. but, fortunately, I had one in the
English money I had with me. The lad must be in his 40s now.

I find having, at least a few, lower denomination notes useful. For

Barclays have 'ASD' machines inside their branches that let you choose
which denomination notes you want (as well as doing other things like
paying in cheques). I use cards to buy things mostly, but occasionally
draw out £50 in £5s.

You're lucky, you are - our local bank closed a year or two back, and

Luxury. Our nearest bank is Two trains, a bus, 3 plane flights and a
boat ride away.
AND its only open every alternate Thursday.

Go round the corner to a bank and swap them then. Simples.

"go around the corner to a bank" hum, nearest bank branch to here is
15 miles away. That's assuming it's still there, after our last bank
branch closed over five years ago.

You're lucky, you are - our local bank closed a year or two back, and
the nearest one is 40 miles away.

Luxury. Our nearest bank is Two trains, a bus, 3 plane flights and a
boat ride away.
AND its only open every alternate Thursday.

I do remmeber when RBS planned to close their Branch in Castlebay, they
said but there's one in Tobermory
