Yes I can well remember my elderly video which after working for maybe
months would suddenly shut down for no apparent reason. Turned out to be a
couple of Silicon rectifiers where the body had shrunk and the wire was
moving as it heated up, losing contact with the bit inside. Bah Humbug, I of
course no longer have the device now, but of course opening it up and
hinging out the pcb was always enough to make it make contact.
It was found merely by accident of touching the area of pcb in the area
with my finger.

Grommets are not a perfect solution because they can be displaced. Last
night I needed to run two mains cables through a hole in a diecast
aluminium box. I drilled the hole then filed the sides of the hole so
they were rounded, then finished off by sanding them smooth.

They're not meant for where the cable is likely to move in use. For that
you want a stuffing gland.

If you displace one when assembling things, put it back. ;-)

Last night I needed to run two mains cables through a hole in a diecast
aluminium box. I drilled the hole then filed the sides of the hole so
