Fridge bulb, how to replace?
Er, can't see how to get this cover off to change the bulb! Getting ahold of it & pulling it every which way quite firmly doesn't budge it. Anyone know how this one works? It's a proline. Not run into this problem before with these type of light covers.

Very likely someone has. |

I did once realise that a lamp wasn't going off when the door was shut. I'd reversed the door as it was /very/ inconvenient as supplied, then realised that the compressor wasn't going off. The lamp was just visibly on through the last miniscule crack before closing. I had to bodge it as there was no more adjustment. A 3W LED might not keep the compressor on all the while but it would affect the running - domestic refrigeration is very feeble. -- Peter. The gods will stay away whilst religions hold sway |

A 3W LED might not keep the compressor on all the while but it would affect the running - domestic refrigeration is very feeble. Your opening and closing sentences seem to contradict each other entirely. My fridge is designed for an ambient temperature and if the temperature falls below that the compressor stops working. To deal with that, in the winter there is a switch to leave the interior light on permanently. This forces the compressor into use. If you use a lamp that (in your words) 'might not keep the compressor on' you could save a few pence on electricity while risking food poisoning or destruction of the contents of the fridge. I know where my priories lie. It reminds me of a relative of mine who decided it was a good idea to put rechargeable batteries into the smoke detector to save money. The unit then started beeping unpredictably during the night. |

You'll feel a gap in the back center of the cover. Gently pull forward and the cover will drop down and pull to the back to fully remove it. |

The instructions talk about unscrewing the bulb anticlockwise, so they are looking at the holder from inside the fridge. The cover looks as if it has to slide away from the housing, i.e. "forwards" away from the door like you unscrew the bulb "forwards". Perhaps other models have the housing reversed so the bulb is towards the door, and they never changed the instructions to suit. -- Dave W -- Dave W |

Cheers, T i m Yes, LED is OK in a fridge; in an oven it would fail on first heating unless the design kept the lamp a long way from the heat; in a microwave oven - I don't know, possibly the radiation/interference could bork it. My fridge/freezer doesn't defrost or use the lamp for cold ambient but it does have a skin heater to prevent condensation and that might be enough to keep it going - depends on the wattage and how much heat would flow the 'wrong' way. The one that I mentioned was in warm weather, so the extra load was too much. -- Peter. The gods will stay away whilst religions hold sway |

However sliding sounds much more likely. Perhaps there's a clip or catch. |
