Some b@stard slipped me an old tenner!
What are my options?
I see I can post it the BoE ... to a nice catchy department shurely recognisable to all light fingered posties, so that would need to be sent tracked costing more money... Are high street banks still taking them in & paying into bank accounts? Is the post office still taking them in and crediting a bank account? Any other options? When I had an old £5 just look it to the nearest branch of my bank (HSBC) and they switched it to a new one over the counter.

What are my options? I took a bunch of em to the high street bank last week - they accept them for paying into an account over the counter, although you can't use the automated machines to make a depost. Are high street banks still taking them in & paying into bank accounts? Yup, well at least mine did. Is the post office still taking them in and crediting a bank account? Don't know. -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |

My bank says it will but only at a main branch. They are apparently still
getting loads of 1 pound coins fivers and tenners. I suppose eventually they will stop and I think at the moment its at the discretion of the bank. Lloyds here does it but the Spanish one seem not to. Brian -- ----- - This newsgroup posting comes to you directly from... The Sofa of Brian Gaff... Blind user, so no pictures please! I suppose banks will have accept old coins/notes until all of them in
circulation have been returned to the Bank of England. And that may take a while if people have stashes of coins/notes that they had forgotten about and suddenly discover - the odd old pound coin or old paper fiver/tenner in a pocket of something that isn't worn very often. I was surprised how quickly the old fivers and tenners disappeared after the launch date: I saw virtually none after the launch date which suggests that people very quickly exchanged them at banks, or paid for things in shops which then banked them rather than giving them back in change. If there are 50% of old notes in your takings on day one there will be as few as 1 in a thousand on day 10. tim |
