For brian: its video of a 26 story tower block on fire in Brazil. It fell straight down, must be the work of those that used super thermite on the towers in America! Its one hell of a blaze, makes you wonder what it was made from. |

Reinforced concrete with a curtain glass facade. probably poor spec concrete inadequately cured and less rebar than the architect specified. Now full of squatters who are having open fires and other silly things throughout the building. |

If that was so you'd expect lots more abandoned buildings used by squatters would go up in flames as spectacularly and they dont. |

One has to ask why it was abandoned, maybe because it was felt to be unsafe.
I can recall here in Kingston a couple of years back some workmen were doing some removal of walls in a building whose drawing said it should be safe to remove, but it collapsed inward one night when the workmen were not there, it later transpired that the drawings were totally wrong about the construction materials and how they were secured, or from the looks of it, not secured. It does make one think. Brian -- ----- - This newsgroup posting comes to you directly from... The Sofa of Brian Gaff... Blind user, so no pictures please! "Nightjar" wrote in message ... It does make one think. One of the comments made by the fire service was that the lifts had been removed, which created a chimney effect that spread the fire. That suggests that it might have been in the process of being dismantled. -- -- Colin Bignell |

Also lots of small businesses at work which could involve welding or soldering, or using a small furnace. Who knows. |

**** all of those. Could be some small businesses in there, hidden behind plywood panelling doing that for clients too. There have been plenty of programs by Channel 4 news about similar buildings in Venezuela. 60 story half-built buildings with no outside windows or safety rails, no handrails on staircases and thousands of people living in there, and yes, running a multitude of small businesses using stolen electricity fed via horrifyingly dangerous cables everywhere. You should watch a better class of news programs, but perhaps Australia, like the US thinks the world stops at their territorial limits ?. |

I do watch the docos. but perhaps Australia, like the US thinks the world stops at their territorial limits ?. Unlikely given that that fire did show up on our equivalent of the BBC. |
