Like this? They look really shiny, does that prevent moss, and stop people wanting to clean them?

designed to gradually wear off until the tile needs to
be replaced, usually after 80-100 years of normal
weathering."

No wonder the gutters get clogged up with lots of silt.

No, mainly it's moss lumps, and soil generated by the rotting moss.

And I've never had my gutters clogged, it all just washes down the drain..

Why is a concrete roof tile designed to wear away?

Presumably it's impossible to design it not to. Lasting 100 years seems pretty good to me.

Only in the heaviest rain and that is easy to avoid by having
chicken wire with fibreglass insulation on top of that under
the metal decking when the roof is done.

You can't see anything when the roof is complete and there is a
proper ceiling below the mesh.

Little Tony was staying with his grandmother for a few days.. He'd been playing outside with the other kids for a while when he came into the house and asked her, "Grandma, what's that called when 2 people sleep in the same room and one is on top of the other?"

She was a little taken, but she decided to just tell him the truth. "It's called sexual intercourse, darling".

Little Tony just said, "Oh, OK," and went back outside to play with the other kids.

A few minutes later he came back in and said angrily, "Grandma, it isn't called sexual intercourse. It's called "Bunk Beds". And Jimmy's mom wants to talk to you."

Well they look nice, but allegedly normal ones last 80-100 years anyway, by which time the builder doesn't care.

No wonder the gutters get clogged up with lots of silt.

Why is a concrete roof tile designed to wear away?

When all our coal-fired power stations are gone, where will the building
industry get their raw material from ?. I believe fly-ash from burning
powdered coal is a useful constituent.

It removes the coating on the tiles and makes them more porous, shortening their lifetime. You might not know immediately.

Anyway I told them to take them to trading standards or sue them (her sister's a lawyer....)

Actually they only live just down the road, and another neighbour had it done too. We could organise a lynching.

Concrete. If there is no more fly ash available anymore,
what was used before fly ash was used can be used again.
