Replacing eyelets in shoes
Some of the eyelets in a shoe seem to have developed sharp internal
edges because laces keep breaking. The local cobblers say it's not a job they can do, but it looks simple; is there any reason not to just buy some eyelets and a setting tool from eBay and DIY? |

When you say local cobbler do you mean those kiosk places that make a living putting new heals on lady's shoes You need to find a "proper" cobbler. tim |

You need to find a "proper" cobbler. tim If one can be found. Definitely thin on the ground in these parts. Nick. |

'twas Timpsons that said "we can't get the eyelets" and a well-established (30+ years) cobbler who said "we don't have an eyelet machine mate". |

If you've a craft shop locally, they sell eyelets and setting tools. You'll normally only find lightweight stuff in craft shops, not suitable for lacing leather with any real tension. More robust stuff as used for horse tack has a washer on the back. Not particularly cheap, hard to justify for one pair of shoes (unless you like collecting stuff which might be useful one day of course). Google or ebay. |

You could try a rat-tail file, first. |
