to use electric immersion heater when the sun shines
and save on FIT electricity bills, is this a good idea?
and can anyone spot a difference between
£190 http://www.chrisrudge.co.uk/immersion.htm
and £31 http://www.reuk.co.uk/Water-Heating-...s-Solar-PV.htm
?

The cheap one doesn't monitor the incoming electricity - it just guesses
from the sunlight level if your system is generating enough power. Cheap but
it does work the immersion at full power. Sounds an interesting idea.

The expensive one monitors the power level from the PV array but will only
work with an 800W - 1Kw immesrion heater so doesn't heat the water very
quickly.

Wait six months for a better one to come along :-)

That's far too much money though it's a good idea. I posted about a
similar thing myself a week ago-ish.
How long would it take you to recover? Probably never would.
As per above, wait for the price to come down.
Meantime look at the weather forecast & just use an ordinary plug type
timer.

£31, if heating a bath costs 50p
then that's 5 years payback,
assuming free copper wire!

The £190 one cant tell if you're exporting or importing electricity,
so there's no great advantage of this one over the £31 one,
neither can tell if washing machines, kettles, heaters etc are on.

More expensive is a 1kw immersion element.

So you have 62 baths in five years? Hmmm. That's one a month. :-)

So what? I haven't had a bath in over 40 years.
