Went to an ourdoor show in France many years ago and they depicted all
Napolean's victories in glorious lights and galloping horses, but they
seemed to miss out Waterloo for some reason.
No mention of Moscow, either.

I wonder how many Britons can name the other nations involved, even
though the British Army was only about one third of the force opposing
Napoleon?

Does seem a strange choice of person for a theme park though.
I mean, if they do that the Belgians and lots of other EU countries will
need to have one too, but I cannot come up with any famous people who have
not got dark pasts.

Despite Waterloo being fairly close to Brussels, the Belgians seem to be
the least likely to be remembered, which does appear to be the fate
history has dictated for them. Even in Belgium, you get offered French
Fries, despite it being Belgian troops who, in the First World War,
taught American troops how to cook emaciated chips. The Americans
thought they were French, although that could just be down to their
grasp of geography.

And at least knew there were others. :-)

Which, I suspect, is a lot more than many people.

It's just a pity that since the completion of the terminus for the
Channel Tunnel rail link trains from France no longer terminate at Waterloo.

The Dutch.

The Anglo-Netherland Army, under Wellington comprised English, Scots,
Welsh, Irish, Germans (mostly Hanoverians), Dutch and Belgians. The
Prussian Army under Blucher contained Germans, Prussians and Poles.

The other allies were Austria and Russia, both of whom had armies on the
way to France, but too far away to take part in the battle.

I was listening to some retired politician or civil servent on the
radio a while back, talking about some of the games they got up
to. On one official visit of the French to Downing Street, they
managed to take the official photographs under a large painting of
Wellington, without the French noticing at the time.

The local newspaper makes it sound really, well, quite boring, to be honest.

Re-enact Waterloo every day (I wonder who'll get to win this time?). Get
splashed in the Battle of Trafalgar, ski through the Saint Bernard Pass....

There's even going to be an Egyptian maze. Yawn

Many years ago, a mate of mine used to drive through France with the
words scrawled in the dirt on the back of his lorry's box trailer, "We
Won at Waterloo!." he was a laugh.

The French don't call it Waterloo, IIRC, so it was probably like water
off a duck's back.

Where they gonna build it, Elba?

Is there perhaps going to be a Brothel as one of the attractions?

I understood good ol Nap was pretty keen on those.

I'm sure there are endless jokes coming in this thread so I'll sit back and
enjoy them.
