Neon or no neon on FCU for boiler and hob
Do the regs specify whether a neon is required on the FCU for a
boiler, and separately on the feed for a gas hob and extractor unit? |

Ditto for a hob and extractor unit. -- David Hansen, Edinburgh I will *always* explain revoked encryption keys, unless RIP prevents me http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2000/00023--e.htm#54 |

Nothing (AFAIK) in the regs. You'd use a neon on something that was undesirable to leave switched on and which was not immediately apparent. -- Ed Sirett - Property maintainer and registered gas fitter. I used one cos I put it next to the boiler which has a blue "on" light and a green "Burner" light. Very pretty :-) |

David Making a few assumptions such as the strike voltage of the neon is 90v, and has 100k resistor in series and the mains is DC not AC (bear with me!)then the current would be 1.5mA and the power 0.36 watts and this would consume 1 unit of electricity in 2800 hours. But the mains is a sine wave and the neon is only lit when the peak voltage is greater than 90 volts so possibly only on for 2/3rds of the time. Which gets us to over 4000 hours per unit. So depending on your tariff maybe 20 pence per year. Bob |

Other colours are used for various normal indication states, with green being a favourate for power on. I initially used green for power on, amber for 'call for heat', blue for low temperature warning (frost stat in loft), red for lockout. -- Andrew Gabriel [email address is not usable -- followup in the newsgroup] |
