Shall I get the roof mended in two halves or all at once?

Presumably it's cheaper to do it all at once,
as only one set of scaffolding would have to be erected etcetera.

But the back half is much more complicated.
I'm thinking of extensions and skylights but havent enough decided yet
to specify them, so perhaps I should wait until next year
when have learned more from here and elsewhere
so as to avoid them having to rip out slates they'd laid this summer.

Also I could move valuables to the back half of the house
so if it rains they wont get wet.

But on the other hand maybe that isnt much wasted work,.
the workers having to come on site twice?

If the woodwork needs MAJOR attention, try and do it all at once.

If its just a bit of re slating, there isn't any reason apart from
startup costs..getting men tools and scaffolding all assembled and up to
speed - to be an issue with splitting it.


How much of a saving would I make (in rough percentage)
having the whole roof renewed at once,
compared to doing the front this summer and the back next summer?

The nails holding down the slates are rusty,
so I think i must have it all off and put on again,
rather than fiddly patching

If its a big job, not much.

BTW I as a potential buyer would certainly look with extreme favour on a
completely relaid and retimbered roof vis a vis a 'repaired' one.
