Door Entry System - Aluminium Door

I am recommending one of these for a family of a disabled friend.
http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/...65211&id=12633
However the house has a Anglian Aluminium door (and frame) and without going
round to examine it I am unsure of whether fitting the door striker will be
feasible - having not seen one of the door strikers in the flesh.

Any ideas?

It doesn't look like the electronic striker is included in the kit,
although it's not very clear. Normally, different strikers are used
with aluminimum frames, as the fixings are quite different.

Have a look at locksonline.co.uk

They have a much wider range of electric strikes and complete access
control systems.

There are some strikes suitable for aluminium frames such as the Trimec ES110.

Here's another example

http://www.locksonline.co.uk/acatalog/The_GU_Secury_automatic_c_w_a_opener.html

At any rate, this does need an inspection because of the different
locking arrangements for aluminium doors.

That one isn't suitable for most aluminium frames. When you've
cut the aluminium away to fix it, there will be nothing behind
the screw holes to fix it to.

Hi John
You dont say what type of locking the door has or if it opens outwards or
inwards.
If it is multi-point locking then no striker release is made and you will
have to resort to a door magnet as used in most offices.
If however it is a single mortice you will need to look and see if it has a
spring loaded latch or uses a slide action to lock the door.

If spring action you can obtain a mortice lock release unit.
When you check try
http://www.bellsystem.co.uk/catalogu...ccessories.pdf

as a start.
The unit you posted looks like BPT kit

Thanks - it is an inward opening door. The latch is a spring operated thing
with a roller on the end. I am not sure if this also locks the door - or if
there is a separate bolt.

Hi John
Easy way to tell is can you push the door open (when not locked with the
key) or do you have to depress the handle?
If you press the handle a basic mortice release may do the job if it will
fit the door.
Either way a release is available but depending on the door thickness and
build may cost anything from being part of the kit to an extra £150 or so.

You have to press the handle.

Thanks for the info
