Fence Panels

Still in very short supply down here in Kent. Gardeners Question Time
discussed it today.
http://www.fencingcontractors.org/ne..._shortage2.htm

As a result of the wet summer of 2006 and the mild winter that followed,
Scandinavian, Russian and the Baltic countries had difficulties harvesting
the softwood logs which are typically used for fencing and construction
materials. Adding to the problems:
.. The UK experienced exceptionally high winds during January and February,
damaging thousands of garden fences in their paths.
.. Major construction projects in China and Dubai have exacerbated the
situation.
.. Export levy applied by Russia

Currently UK sawmills and timber suppliers are unable to confirm delivery
dates to the fencing contractors whose customers, quite understandably, are
expecting installation deadlines to be met.

So now you know :-)

I have two jobs pending awaiting panels.

I suspect fencing is most sensitive to supply fluctuations as it uses
the cheapest timber.

Structural timber and joinery pine also has some supply problems and
has risen approx 20% in price in 4 months. Hopefully prices will level
off for a while as suppliers catch up - after all the UK is small fry
in the world timber trade.

Yup. 6 x 2 sawn has gone up a lot recently, at least by 20%. It can put
same qoutes out by a fair bit.
