It happens that MrBitsy formulated :
I went on to explain how the position of our vehicle lets others know
we are going to pass the parked hazzard, so no signal required. I also
explained why it isn't good driving to stop too close to the kirb -
because other drivers may assume we have parked.

...and a right indicator whilst holding back would add further
confirmation of intention to pull out - had the Festa been indicating
whilst holding back, then it might of prevented the other cars passing
it.

Sometimes it is necessary to hold back close to the kerb
