10 Reasons to go veggie

And loads more why not: http://www.hyperactive-stage.co.uk/b...ts.asp?ref=196 Sorry John, but I think that is an absolutely ridiculous article. I've been veggie for 17 years (since I was 16). I don't go round trying to 'convert' people, and rarely tell people what my views are. I have my reasons, and that's that. Most vegetarians that I have (knowingly) come into contact with are much the same. I think that article looks at the 'celebrity' flavour of vegetarianism, and judges all vegetarians against that standard. I'm curious why the author has such a been in his/her bonnet about the subject. -- Grunff |

I actually thought many of the points it made were quite reasonable. I appreciate that it was also being played for laughs in places, and obviously the author has been wound up in the past by the more rabid veggie elements and has an axe to grind regarding their behaviour. I've been veggie for 17 years (since I was 16). I don't go round trying to 'convert' people, and rarely tell people what my views are. I have my reasons, and that's that. SWMBO is a veggie (with occasional lapses for fish etc) and personally I consider it a to be a bit of a non issue (after all if she wants to cook two meals instead of one, so be it!) I think that article looks at the 'celebrity' flavour of vegetarianism, and judges all vegetarians against that standard. Yup, certainly. Also to be fair, I have found that on the rare occasions when you do meet someone determined to "spread the veggie faith" and force feed others around them with it, they do tend to fit the stereotype he is arguing against quite well. The author has a reputation for a number of similar "controversial" essays. That one came to prominence because he published it on his blog which was hosted by the university for which he worked. Some members of a veggie dating site[1] managed to get the Uni to pull his account because of it. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05...e_veggie_site/ I'm curious why the author has such a been in his/her bonnet about the subject. Perhaps because it stirs up a good debate? [1] The fact that there is a veggie and vegan dating site does suggest that it is an almost religious issue for some, to the extent they could not countenance a mixed "faith" relationship. -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |
