Cable support inside stud walls?

Hi,

If dropping a T&E cable verticaly down inside a stud wall (without
insulation) to an accessory placed between two studs, should the
cable be supported every 400mm (as it would if clipped to a wall) or
can it be left essentially free? I'd guess that it's no different to
having cable inside large diameter conduit/trunking and would only
need support every few meters. If this isn't the case then presumably
the cable should be routed along the studs (making compliance with
regs on cables runs difficult on a 100mm wall) or extra noggins put
in.

Thanks

Jim
