Need cheap supplier of regulated 9vdc Power Supplies
Any help greatly appreciated. 500mA needed
I want to run Camera's off these. Even better would be a single PSU that could run upto 4 cameras @ 500mA each Thanks in advance |

Have a look at: http://www.cpc.co.uk Use the keyword 'psu'. -- Bob Eager begin a new life...dump Windows! |

Does the fact its a 'switching' psu mean it will be regulated? "switching" means it uses a technology called "switched mode" - basically a way of extracting high current outputs from much smaller and lighter transformers than you would otherwise expect. As far as I am aware all switching supplies have regulated outputs. The CPC part number PW00757 I linked to above achieves a regulation accuracy of 1% according to its spec. -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |

This one looks good value at about 20 quid. http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk/rkmain.asp?PAGEID=80010&CTL_CAT_CODE=30354&STK_PRO D_CODE=M60091&XPAGENO=1 -- *I get enough exercise just pushing my luck. Pedro Popadopolous was thinking very hard :
Any help greatly appreciated. 500mA needed I want to run Camera's off these. Even better would be a single PSU that could run upto 4 cameras @ 500mA each Thanks in advance As other have suggested, except.... A switch mode PSU will be tightly regulated, but might generate a small amount of electrical noise (interference), especially if the supply cables are run some distance to the cameras. You should also be aware that if you are running the cameras all from one supply, that voltage drop along the cable might be a problem. -- Regards, Harry (M1BYT) (L) http://www.ukradioamateur.org |

Might be worth providing separate smoothing/decoupling for each one anyway. -- *Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you? * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

One supply teed out to all 6? cameras means a fault in any one camera which causes the power to shut down (in a controlled or uncontrolled way!) makes all the cameras go dark. Economics of mass manufacture mean the cheapest way is to buy separate wall warts and plug them into a single 4-way, 6-way, or whatever mains block. Any fancier approach, with a central transformer and multiple downstream regulators, will be either a custom build (easy for an electronics trade course student to design and knock up) or made for a 'specialist' application - e.g. on-stage gigging. So, over at www.studiospares.co.uk, under product num 440-950, you'll find a box with 8 separate 9V outputs, regulated (not *entirely* clear if each one's 'independently' regulated, but at least each one seems to have individual short-circuit protection), complete with 8 3-metre leads. Designed specifically 'for those who despair at the unreliability of plug top power supplies'. Internal jumpers adjust output polarity. Oh, the cost? Not stupid, but not trivial: about 70 notes.
