Default Toshiba 32AF42

Hello,

Hoping someone here can help me. I've searched for hours in other
newsgroups, but nothing comes up.

Early yesterday morning, I was watching a DVD on my two year old
Toshiba 32AF42 TV (similar to this year's 32AF44). I've got a Toshiba
DVD player and Expressvu satellite receiver hooked up through S-Video
cables.

Within 5 minutes, the entire screen went white. The best way to
describe it is as though there is a white veil covering the screen and
you can see the blurred images (sort of) behind the veil. My
immediate assumption was that the S-Video cable was shot, so I tested
the Expressvu connection - same result.

I then noticed that the Toshiba green menu items (Brightness, Color
Temp, Contrast, etc) were also hiding behind the veil, which logically
would mean that there is nothing wrong with the source (DVD or
Expressvu).

Small panic ensued, because my warranty expired 2 months ago, so I
began fiddling with the connections:

1. Hooked everything up through composite
2. Unplugged the TV for 12 hours and tested again
3. Hooked up a VCR through the front composite inputs
4. Gave it a couple of love taps

Nothing worked. So I turn to this forum for guidance. Can anyone
tell me if they've seen something like this before? Does it sound
like the tube or something else?

Sorry for the long post.

PS. The sound is fine.

It looks like by coincidence your TV set has a fault that developed. Since
the screen become over-bright, this can be a fault in the high voltage
multiplier, or the bias circuits to the CRT, or the CRT itself.

If you are not experienced and equipped for doing TV servicing, you will
have to call the Toshiba tech support to send over a service person to give
you an estimate, or bring the set down to them.
