making glass for blasting purposes....why not?

with all the glass bottles and containers that we throw away, what
would it take to crush them into a useable medium for my blasting
cabinet? some kind of grinder, then sifted...would this be a cheap
source of blasting medium?

I think the blasting media you are used to is glass beads. Ground up glass
would have sharp edges. Seems like a lot of work, and dangerous too
(inhaling ground glass and possibility of getting cut). I don't know
anything about your cabinet and what media it would take but I would think
there is a lot of other, safer, media to work with.

Do a search for Trivitro. That is the corp that sells exactly what you
are talking about in the Seattle area.
