On the declining art of safecracking. And, another example of cultural loss
due to declines in people going into the trades.

Why crack a safe when you can make more programming the bank's computer?

Feynman's account of his safecracking activities is a
fascinating and funny read.

As a locksmith I can tell you that safecracking is alive and well albeit on
the legal side. The primary reason that illegal safecracking is on the
decline is that too much time is required to do the job and by then the
alarm has done it's job.

Feynman was a fascinating fellow, you'll love his biographies.

Amen. "Physics is like sex. Sure, it may give some practical results,
but that's not why we do it." - R. Feynman.

His book "Six Easy Pieces" should be on the "Must Read" list in
schools everywhere.
