Is Ali Babin Back on eBay?

Notice that the last (that I knew of) incarnation, marjenmachines, has
stopped doing business in a flood of negative feedback. Had a good run,
I got lots of goodies in the early days while everyone was paranoid
about the upper-case Bristol CT vendor.... Wonder how long the next
one will last?

Would dearly like to get the rest of the slitting saws I paid for
during one of the previous lives..... / mark

It looks as though you have a winner.

I particularly like the "description" of the Bridgeport dials.
Only a '.' above the photo.

And zero feedback, 67 auctions already out there, and the
spelling and phrasing all look typical.

The 3-4" B&S micrometer was photographed on a black background
cloth, hiding most detail. (Hmm ... maybe a black or dark purple velvet
lined box. -- or maybe not. :-)

And I love the DIAMON GRINNING WHEEL" :-)

Enjoy,
DoN.

I bought a tailstock from landry433 that was $24 BIN and $12 shipping. I
did the BIN and sent off the money. I received the tailstock in very good
condition and the box has $36.85 postage on it. If you see what you want
from this guy get it quick cuz he's going to go broke soon with this
business model!

How about landry433? Other than the 100% positive feedback, he looks like
another re-incarnation.

I don't know. He was here, then I had a problem with my
newsfeed, and when I finally got that straightened out (It took about a
week), there was nothing more from him.

Does *anybody* know?

And he was the one in contact with the USPS police about the
matter.

Enjoy,

Al Babin has (or did) have several people working for him, just look at all
the auctions he run at once. Just to get all the items to sell is a full
time job, then posting them is an even a bigger job. He has to be at least a
5 man show.
This landry433 for someone who started just months ago currently has a ****

Connecticut seems to be a focal point. However one has to be careful,
I just purchased an acorn die head from a 'suspect' city there, from
a seller who was not marjen or landryxxx. I had paid in cash, and
the article showed up right on time and looked exactly right. So
there are other machinery dealers in the area.

It is also just *barely* possible that either a) the other tool
sellers in the area are leaning on 'ol Al to straighten up, or
b) maybe he's realized he can make more money by being a better
seller.

I live in Connecticut and do sell on ebay, not near what Al does, there are
alot of machine tool sales out of this area. The CT, MA NY, RI (circle) its
not a real big area but this was a very heavy tool and dia area years back.
You can't go to far without seeing a tool and dia company or closed shop.

Looks pretty good and Babin-ey...

As for Pete, didn't he get stuck in a crashed Jeep or something? ;)

Aren't I supposed to win somethng good for spotting Al? In reference
to "where's Pete". He says he got bored with and annoyed by some of
the RCMers and the OT stuff going on. I still see him a couple of
times a month and I can assure you he's looking quite healthy.
Leigh@MarMachine

Mark November 21st 04 04:05 PM

Well, in the case of marjen, there wasn't any red ink for a very
long time. As I said, they (he) had a good run. I got cold
feet after a few months, but of course, others had discovered
the low prices and good selection, so bid were going higher.

Notice that the new one isn't Bristol, CT, so maybe those who don't
read RCM will jump in earlier....

Always trust your s**t detector. / mark

Leigh @MarMachine

You know. I don't get why people continue to buy from someone like
that.

If you see all that red ink in his feedback profile surely it's got to
occur to you that this guy just might not be the best seller.

What makes people buy from these guys? Is it that it's such a good
deal that you can't pass it up?

But something that puzzles me even more is why people are not
reporting him as a non-performing seller. If you are a buyer, please
report this guy as a non-performing seller. It's more important to
report him as a NPS than it is to leave negative feedback. eBay will
kick him off if he's a NPS, they won't do anything even if he's got
hundreds of negs.

I Emailed "machinist library" yesterday with this question. "Al: If I
pay for the item will I receive it?" Here is the reply verbatum.

we will shaip one after payment

Maybe it isn't AL after all or the caps lock has slipped again.

Every once in a while, he types entirely in lower case. I
suspect that somewhere in the middle of a description, he hits the caps
lock as one of his typos, and it stays that way until another accident
hits it again. :-)

Enjoy,
