building trailer axles

I am tring to replace old mobile home axle with mismatched barings. Looks
like my best choice is to customer make them. What steel should be used for
6,000/7,000lb axles? Would 3" OD x 0.25 = 2.5" ID in ERW, HRW, BW, DOM with a
little heat be able to slip over the SP-25042 axles (2.5" OD)? Or would I
have to freeze (dry ice) the axle also? One place list 3"x7/32 wall at 2.562"
ID in ERW & DOM, would that be a better option & strong enough, still waiting
on a price?

Standard #42 spindels (3,500 b each) SP-22542 = 2.25" OD, SP-25042 = *2.50" OD*
Standard brake mounting plates are 2-1/2" ID or *3-1/8" ID*
