Iron Fever Visit secret RCM handshake

I'm going to try to make it to Iron Fever this weekend. If you see a
somewhat overweight middle-aged guy with graying hair, glasses, and a
beard, please introduce yourselves. A better identification method will
be to look for a beautiful and charming 13-year-old and find the old guy
attached to her.

Has anyone else noticed the unusually high proportion of hairy faced
guys in this hobby? Must be some kind of genetic predisposition.

That sounds like a good identifier system.

I expect to be there too --- Saturday only -- with a Yellow
"CAMS" cap (if I can remember to keep it on indoors), a Nikon camera
hung around my neck, and a folding cart behind me with a canvas bag for
smaller goodies.

My wife may be with me, or off looking for interesting things
elsewhere in the show. If she is there, the top of her head comes up to
almost my chin, :-)

My beard is now mostly gray -- unless I spill some barbeque
sauce on it. :-)

My hair is also probably too long by others opinions.

People who don't care that much what others think of their
hobbies are also not likely to care that much about what they think
about the beards, too. :-)

Enjoy,
DoN.

Hey Kevin,

At NAMES, Scott Logan makes a good "reporting point". And he's a nice
guy to chat with too.

Take care.

OK, check just inside the entrance to the East hall, and look for a
slightly short, slightly undertall (relative to width), slightly
balding guy in his mid-forties, with a beautiful 16-year-old girl
working the Logan Actuator booth.

Wait till you see the guys at the show! Abby used to say they all
look like Santa. LOTS of white facial hairg.

See you this weekend!

Nah! The drool accumulates in the whiskers and provides a nice, steady
source of cutting lubricants for us old guys who have to get real close to
the lathe work to see what we're doing.

BTW -- I have found that spit is just about the best liquid to use on my
white Arkansas stones for honing tool bits.

Folks at ABANA (blacksmiths) conferences who are also on the email list
put round orange dots on their nametags that have an @ printed on them.
Works pretty well, noticeable and easy to wear. Somebody puts pages of
dots on a few tables with a note and everyone picks them up.

I hadn't planned to. It is just a bit too much to keep track of
while I am wheeling around a cart which may get loaded with heavy
purchases (if things go well). I also tend not to bring it to hamfests
these days. I have to make do with the pair of tinwhistles stuck in my
belt.

Maybe I'll bring it to the hospitality suite, if it does not
turn out to take us too long to drive up there, with the nasty
hurricane decay products coming through. :-)

Enjoy,
DoN.

P.S. For those who fear piano accordions -- this is a much smaller
instrument -- and English system concertina, and it has a
noticeably different sound.
