Default lot4 6in. dalton lathe

Looking for info on how to refurbish my lot 4 dalton.. first off, what is the
best way to remove years of sludge on the surface? 95 % of this jewel is
there. It is missing the tool holder, but it runs and turns nicely.. just
pretty weathered. not sure if this will get to the right forum..
