I finally found a stereo microscope that I could afford. It is a B&L
StereoZoom4 on a boom. I need a pair of 23mm 10X eyepieces, and the 38
mm light mounting ring. I know that some of you have some spare parts,
and I would prefer to buy from the group, than from eBay. I will buy a
LED light ring and the rubber eyepieces there.

I used a SSZ-7 at Microdyne, and I tried every light source they had.
The ring light was best, for looking for bad solder work, and for doing
rework. It wasn't LED, and had a small gap in the lighting at the ends
of the glass tube. I was hand soldering leads that were .015" center to
center, and any other type of light required constantly turning and
moving the PC board.

multi-focal 10-25x set of lighted spectacles on eBay. They go for $9

Larry, have you ever used a boom microscope with zoom? A twist of
the knob, and the objective can be set anywhere between .7 to 3.0
magnification. With 10X eyepieces, it gives you a range from 7X to 30X.
Other eyepieces or objective lenses can give other ranges. The
StereoZoom 7 that I used daily at Microdyne had an even wider range,
without changing lenses.

They do leave something to be desired, but they're hundreds (if not
thousands) of dollars cheaper. Amount of use usually determines what
you're willing to spend on one, I guess. You hadn't let on that you
had already bought one when I suggested it, though, or I wouldn't
have. I'm guessing you're using this to work with death's head moths,

Have one of those, on the boom. Added an LED ring light, WAY better than
the OEM light! Used to have a Levin and did some very tiny parts on it

I made my own stand out of a wrecked Buck adjustable chuck (must have been
crashed, jaws are out of line) and some MacPherson strut rods. Works GREAT!

I made my own ring light out of a piece of PC board material and 8 white
LEDs. I cut a ring-groove, so there are two concentric rings of copper,
powered by a 12V wall wart. 1K current limit resistors for each LED.
I leave enough lead so all the LEDs can be pointed at where the scope looks.

What model is the little Sony/Tektronix? It looks like a 323 or a
324. The for channel to the left looks like a 2465, and I see a what
looks lit a URM/25 series military signal generator in the top left. A
couple Fluke bench meters are next to it.


I have 17 Tektronix scopes, and a military scope built by Magnavox.
I have one HP video waveform monitor that was built for Western Electric
as the KS-19763L1A. It is a drop in replacement for a Tektronix RM529,
but it has the WE video connectors, instead of BNC.

The usual mix of Tek multi meters, freq counters etc etc. Got a bunch
of stuff up on the shelf above that stuff in the photo, watt meters,
standing wave meters, decade boxes, various soldering stations..the
usual flotsom and jetsom...shrug. A couple spare function
generators..etc etc.

Got a nice Panasonic multiband receiver and a Kenwood TS-520SE
transeiver which I need to fire up one of these days and see if it
actually works.

The work station of course has the scope, meters, several variable
powersupplies, 0-24vt 10 amps, 0-110vts AC/DC 5 amps, another
soldering station that gets most of the work (Weller WES51) etc etc.

Im missing at least 2 more scopes...no idea what I did with one B&K
of some sort IRRC...I think Larry got the other one..no memory of what
the Mod was. Remember it was 3 pieces, one was battery, one was
charger..the other was the scope, all clamped together. Bullet proof
old bitch, I used it for years in the field and was calibrated well.
(Now I usually use the 323 or the 475)

It worked just fine..batteries were toast/missing.

Speaking of batteries..ever run across a 2XX series scope..PLEASE keep
me in mind. Had one grow legs and walk off when my truck was burgled
about 2004 or so...would really like to have another one to keep in my
kit. I dont use a scope in the field (I repair machine tools..manual
and CNC etc etc) all that often..maybe once or twice a month..but
having a mini like the 200s and being able to keep it in my
electronics box, rather than banging around inside the truck..would be
groovy.

Ive seen some cell phone sized scopes on Ebay..most were out of my
price range in these slim times..others..dont know much about them.
Are any of the adapters that attach to a laptop any good? I picked up
a General Dynamics laptop to replace my elderly Armada 1700 (200
MHZ!!! Wheee!!) which worked well enough doing RS-234/485 duty..but it
was getting really..really long in the tooth....but..it still
works..Its in my electronics shop on the shelf for laptop duty stuff.

Im a technician, heavily weighted for mechanical
repair/conversions...and am a bit rusty at the electron pushing end of
the spectrum...whistle the tune and I can usually drum along...shrug.

Only you would try that. Some are for video work, others are
standard scopes. I didn't list the three that are part of old service
monitors for working on two way business radios, or VHF/UHF ham radios.

I also have a Tektronix video test set with two scope tubes. It's
the only thing I've ever seen with two displays.

I would post a list of all of them, but most on the group wouldn't
know one type from another.

What is WE?


Western Electric. They used a 75 ohm video connector that could be
mounted in place of an audio jack in a patch panel. They are still used
for video. The reason Western Electric did this was to simplify the
layout and operation of their microwave and coaxial video longlines. The
amplifiers and equalizers had to be monitored, and adjusted at each
facility. The phase mismatch along the various routes was why old
Network TV feeds were never the same tint from one feed to another. That
went away with the C-band feeds in the late '70s.

packs, and one of the 324 scopes is a parts mule. The power supply is
missing, and it has several broken knobs.

The usual mix of Tek multi meters, freq counters etc etc. Got a bunch
of stuff up on the shelf above that stuff in the photo, watt meters,
standing wave meters, decade boxes, various soldering stations..the
usual flotsom and jetsom...shrug. A couple spare function
generators..etc etc.

Got a nice Panasonic multi-band receiver and a Kenwood TS-520SE
transceiver which I need to fire up one of these days and see if it
actually works.

The work station of course has the scope, meters, several variable
power supplies, 0-24Volt 10Amp, 0-110vts AC/DC 5 amps, another
soldering station that gets most of the work (Weller WES51) etc etc.



I have 17 Tektronix scopes, and a military scope built by Magnavox.
I have one HP video waveform monitor that was built for Western Electric
as the KS-19763L1A. It is a drop in replacement for a Tektronix RM529,
but it has the WE video connectors, instead of BNC.

Im missing at least 2 more scopes...no idea what I did with one B&K
of some sort IRRC...I think Larry got the other one..no memory of what
the Mod was. Remember it was 3 pieces, one was battery, one was
charger..the other was the scope, all clamped together. Bullet proof
old bitch, I used it for years in the field and was calibrated well.
(Now I usually use the 323 or the 475)

It worked just fine..batteries were toast/missing.

Speaking of batteries..ever run across a 2XX series scope..PLEASE keep
me in mind. Had one grow legs and walk off when my truck was burgled
about 2004 or so...would really like to have another one to keep in my
kit. I dont use a scope in the field (I repair machine tools..manual
and CNC etc etc) all that often..maybe once or twice a month..but
having a mini like the 200s and being able to keep it in my
electronics box, rather than banging around inside the truck..would be
groovy.

Ive seen some cell phone sized scopes on Ebay..most were out of my
price range in these slim times..others..dont know much about them.
Are any of the adapters that attach to a laptop any good? I picked up
a General Dynamics laptop to replace my elderly Armada 1700 (200
MHZ!!! Wheee!!) which worked well enough doing RS-234/485 duty..but it
was getting really..really long in the tooth....but..it still
works..Its in my electronics shop on the shelf for laptop duty stuff.

Im a technician, heavily weighted for mechanical
repair/conversions...and am a bit rusty at the electron pushing end of
the spectrum...whistle the tune and I can usually drum along...shrug.

It is quite similar to what I used at Microdyne, 15+ years ago. Same
brand, but a slightly different head.

stereo head mounted on a base and several other microscopes, along
with a nice old Spencer biological microscope

Sorry about the picture quality..the flash in my "desk camera" appears
to have failed. The microscopes are covered in dust...Ive not used
them in years. If Id known you needed one..we might have done some
swapping and trading.

having trouble with Google Photos...$&^!!

When they discontinued Picasa..they screwed the pooch.

Did they allow you to grab your stored pics first, I hope?
I hadn't heard that Picasa went TU.

Yup..they allowed us to put them in an "archive" where we could
download them, view them etc..just not change them..and getting to the
archives is a pain in the ass.

Western Electric. They used a 75 ohm video connector that could be
mounted in place of an audio jack in a patch panel. They are still used
for video. The reason Western Electric did this was to simplify the
layout and operation of their microwave and coaxial video longlines. The
