Boeing's portable drone-killing laser
Here it is, the latest laser toy from Boeing, designed specifically to
set drones on fi http://www.wired.com/2015/08/welcome...-laser-cannon/ It's a 2kW laser that's controlled by a standard Xbox 360 and a laptop. Although the article doesn't say so, it's probably powered by an off-the-shelf IPG fiber laser, like the big laser cannons that are being deployed on US ships. Every kid in America is going to ask for one for Christmas. g -- Ed Huntress |

Boeing's portable drone-killing laser
Someone made a widget that could zap mosquitoes in flight a couple of years back. I'll bet anyone with access to a hobby sized laser cutter and a PC could shoot down drones for a lot less money. Might take a little longer than the instantaneous zap of a big-ass laser but 40 or 50 watts would do nicely.. |

Odd, lasers I know can't be focused. They can be bent and shaped
by mirror. But focus is not how it works. Laser means parallel light. Not enough to hurt my truck...so I didnt bother to get out and look. He had been riding my ass like a Blue Oyster queer...didnt pay much attention to him until the next time he tapped my ass...texting on his cell phone and paying no attention to what was going on around him. My drivers window was rolled down and he reached in with one hand to grab me and cocked his fist back..just in time to look down at that silver .45 pointed at his crotch. I was looking him square in the eyes and asked him "ever think your bad day could suddenly get worse? You already hit my truck twice..lets not make it a third time, ok?". I tend to never blink in such unpleasentness and my eyes focus in kinda an odd fashion according to friends...he froze..****ed his pants...and then traffic moved ahead a bit and I ..never taking my eyes off his...told him "might want to get back into your car and listen to the music", then I pulled ahead the next 30 or so feet. I could see him in the rearview mirror standing there for a few dozen seconds or so..then he shook himself, looked down at his crotch..and ran like a rabbit back to his car and got in. He never got closer than 2 car lengths for the next 45 or so minutes until the traffic cleared and then he passed me like a shot, never looking around...eyes straight ahead on the road.
