It does not make sense. Iggy...you dont know much about radiation and its effects do you? It has different effects on different organisims. Plants may or may not mutate, critters may or may not mutate... Generally if the mutations are extreme..the young are born so deformed they dont live past a few hours/days, Flora being on a different part of the food chain...do the same. The studies that have been done as a result of Chernoblyle have shown some interesting results. Depending on the dose, dose/time and types of radiation sources..."we" can live through far more exposure than was originally thought. The LD50 comes with a bunch of caviats. But they didn't get the killoff of people they thought would happen from cancers over the years, either. And even then, human losses were quite limited. Human losses..oh...immediate deaths within 2 yrs..less than 100 IRRC. Long term deaths...20k-60k so far. A terrorist dirty bomb would be a small device. See the difference? Chernobyl and terrorist dirty bomb compare like a barrel full of ****, versus a single juicy fart. Depends on the composition and the delivery system. But pyschologically...it will certainly leave its mark on the people of th e target area. Its a terror weapon, nothing more, nothing less. Invisible, colorless, tasteless, smellless...it grows with the telling. Which is why I keep a set of geiger counters on standby and have for 30 yrs Gunner i |

It is not the same, but has some similarities to, say, a hypothetical threat from me to put a "curse" on you. It is only a threat, if you think that the "curse" would actually damage you. Same with "dirty bomb". If it was not feared so much, no one would want to smuggle detectable, dangerous, radioactive substances that require enormous shielding, and yet are only bound to take a few actual lives, at most. Which is why I keep a set of geiger counters on standby and have for 30 yrs I have a CDV-700 and a few hot samples (uranium ore rocks). It is awesome. It detects radiation in ambient air, granite, etc. i |

If it was not feared so much, no one would want to smuggle detectable, dangerous, radioactive substances that require enormous shielding, and yet are only bound to take a few actual lives, at most. Actually..its more of an "area denial weapon". If properly used..it will force thousands..hundreds of thousands of people out of an area for an extended period of time. Give you an example: Blow up a dirty bomb at the top of a building east of say..Wall Street or someplace similar on a day with a nice thermal inversion and a slight breeze. It will cast radioactive dust for miles...on buildings, on roadways, on sidewalks etc etc. Depending on the radioactives used..it could make those places very deadly to be in or around. The government will force..force you to leave any buildings/homes/sites within the range of the dust.."for your safety" If you want to simply kill a large number of people..you use Chemical or Biological weapons or a simple nuke..not a dirty bomb. But a dirty bomb will clear a large area for a very long time and cost billions to clean up. Invisible, colorless, tasteless, smellless...it grows with the telling. Which is why I keep a set of geiger counters on standby and have for 30 yrs I have a CDV-700 and a few hot samples (uranium ore rocks). It is awesome. We have drugs smuggled in all of the time. Get real.
It might come across the lake or across the river or up a river.
