PVC hose splitter?

I have a need to split PVC hose of several diameters to make edge protector strips on a bottle filling machine. Need to split 1/2", 3/4" and 1" hose. Thinking of making something that will hold a Exaco knife so that the blade protrudes into a hole that I slide a piece of hose through. Kinda like a pea sheller for black eye peas. Anyone ever do something along these lines willing to offer design advice? Thanks in advance! Gerry

Depending on wall thickness..an exacto knife may not work. You may
have to slit it with a saw. Got a table saw? You can make a box, with
a slit in the bottom you can clamp over the table saw blade (or under
radial arm saw blade..and simply pull the hose through while the blade
is running.

Google " tubing splitter " . There is a short video showing one made of wood and using a utility knife blade or a single edge razor blade.

Gunner, unless you clamp a guide piece to BOTH free ends of that pipe,
such that the guides run flush on the table and totally prevent any
rotation of the pipe, you'll never get a straight cut. It will usually
assume a slow spiral, but can also 'wave'.

Correct. Thats what your hands are for. And you can add a guide pin
just after the blade.

Thats what your hands are for.

Hands aren't precision tools, even "in the hands" of an expert; not when
vibration, saw torque, dis-uniformity in the materials, etc, are in effect.

If this job just needs to be "OK", then do it by hand. If it needs to be
'right', take the few minutes necessary to build the proper fixturing.
